I'm lucky right now cause I can listen to music at work, and my most recent 2 CDs are the singer songwriter cds that make we want to create, play, and be an artist.
I'd love to watch the creation of a song. Not necessarily the music, but the lyrics. I read that the Cassadaga CD is about his trip touring around the US. I'd love to watch him write the lyrics and see what he's looking at and thinking when a line is written. It seems like a description of a scene (the calloused East). I'm not using the words "Paint a picture with words" or "Soundscape." I don't think their appropriate for me since: a. I don't write or talk like that, I'd be pretending; b. I've heard many a douche describe songs that make me poo with those words.
The Elliott Smith CD has a lot more situation or emotion lines. "Another sick rock & roller acting like a dick"
Either way, I want to create that.
Curse my choice not to invest in music earlier!! Hooray for music now!
Oh, and I want guitar tabs available the instant songs are released. Is that too much to ask?
I wonder if the future of music will be different and flooded with massive amounts of goodness due to the proliferation of iPods. If I had access (and iPod availability) to the kind of music now that I wish I had had growing up, would I still be in a corporate job, or playing a six string til my fingers bled? I always thought that if my parents had listened to better music at home, I would have an infinitely better mind today. I'm not blaming, I just think that I could have gotten into bands way earlier, before they got big, or dead.
There was only so much good you could get from a radio station or 2 in Indianapolis in the early 90s. Not to mention that I was a geek, and enjoyed Marching band music on the way to school to get me pumped up. Oh man, that's not true. I'm not that bad.
I'm happy that finding music and recommendations and new music is almost always 15 seconds away.
I just hope the youth uses it for good not evil.
